Northeast 27th Street
Bellevue, WA
This classic mid century "tree house" in the heart of Bellevue's Clyde Hill community was beautifully preserved when we got our hands on it. The 12,000 square foot lot was massively overgrown with giant rhododendrons, shrubs and trees but the house itself was in good shape. The original vertical cedar siding was in perfect condition so we felt compelled to keep the outside mostly intact. We cleaned up the overgrown landscape and new sod and plants were added. A water feature at the front door was a beautiful addition to this natural setting. The interior of this one owner home was also well kept but had unfinished basement space and had not been updated since it was built in 1967. The daylight rambler had three small bedrooms up and one down. We rearranged the floor plan to include a large master with ensuite bath upstairs along with an office, 3/4 guest bath, and great room concept kitchen, dining and living. Downstairs we worked in three bedrooms, including one with an ensuite bath, and an additional bathroom and laundry room. We incorporated a wet bar into the rec room and added a new slider out to the covered patio. The interior of the house was completely rebuilt, including all new electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. The insulation was also brought up to current code. All tile floors were equipped with radiant heat. The overall design was intended to pay respect to this home's mid century roots while bringing it up to to today's modern standards. We also added skylights and vaulted the ceilings where possible to add an abundance of natural light.
